Montserrat Restaurants: Where to Eat at Montserrat

I love a good meal after a day of exploring, but unfortunately Montserrat restaurants are few and far between.

That said, admidst the tourist slop there are some decent places to eat at Montserrat – but you’ve gotta know in advance.

In short, here’s what to know about eating at Montserrat:

Food options are limited, so timing and expectations matter more than choice. The smartest plan is usually to decide in advance whether you want a proper meal, a quick bite, or to eat elsewhere.

Let’s jump into some Montserrat food, shall we?

Restaurant Abat Cisneros

Finally, there’s Restaurant Abat Cisneros. Located in a 16th-century building, it’s part of the Hotel Abat Cisneros.

The dining room features a stone archway. It’s family-friendly and perfect for a relaxed lunch – this is the best restaurant in Montserrat, even though that’s not saying much!

My personal tip? Go for a table near the archway: it adds a cool vibe to your meal.

⚠️  Warning ⚠️: Getting to Montserrat independently from Barcelona involves three different forms of transport.

It’s so much easier booking an all-inclusive ticket or organized guided tour – it’ll save time and add tons of value to your trip.

The Cafeteria

First up, since I’m aways more interested in visiting Montserrat for its sights – I usually just opt for quick options at the Cafeteria at Montserrat .

It sits right across from the Cremallera rack train station.

It serves coffee, pastries, and sandwiches all day. For lunch, they offer a simple buffet for about €18.00 (2025 prices) but don’t expect anything gourmet.

What I like about this spot is its convenience. You grab a quick bite and get back to sightseeing without missing a beat.

Restaurant Montserrat

Another option is Restaurant Montserrat. This place opened in 1976 and boasts panoramic views of the mountain, though if only the food could match it!

They focus on a laundry list of classic Spanish tapas – the picture menu kind. The ingredients are fresh enough, but don’t expect miracles here!

Where to Eat Near Montserrat

Restaurant B02

Restaurant BO2 in Monistrol de Montserrat sits just a few minutes walk from where to Barcelona to Montserrat train arrives for the rack railway.

Chefs María José Lara and Marcela Orellana cook with local ingredients – this is an authentic Catalan dining experience, and for me a great post-visit stop if you’re in no hurry to get back to Barcelona.

L’illa

Don’t miss L’illa Restaurant in Collbató! Especially if you’re driving to Montserrat from Barcelona, as you’ll need a car for this one.

This gem sits about 30 minutes from the abbey by car.

They serve Catalan cuisine for lunch only. You can pick the set menu or go à la carte – both hit the spot.

I love popping into small towns like Collbató for that local vibe. This place delivers it with every bite.

Bartomeu

This family-run spot sits just 15 minutes by car from the Montserrat Monastery.

Bartomeu is right by the river. No fancy extras – just good, honest Catalan cuisine.

I love that simplicity sometimes. They serve lunch only. The menu keeps things straightforward with local classics.

You get a set meal: €13.00 on weekdays, €15.00 on weekends.

Montserrat Food

Not into sit-down meals? The Montserrat Farmer’s Market has you covered – and it’s just a few minutes from where the Montserrat cable car ends.

I really loved the homemade cheeses and local honey here. Grab some “mel i mató” – cottage cheese with honey – for a sweet treat.

Pack it up for a picnic. The mountain’s got plenty of spots to sit and enjoy.

I’d suggest this over a crowded cafeteria any day. Fresh air and fresh food? Yes, please.
