Not because it isn’t amazing – it is – but because it’s a half-day commitment, and the city has so much to see.

I had a friend visit last summer who insisted on Montserrat even with a packed itinerary. She loved it. But she also admitted she rushed Sagrada Familia and Park Güell and regretted it later.

My rule of thumb? If you’re more about city vibes, food tours, and museums, save Montserrat for your next trip.

But if your soul feels like it’s gasping for some open skies and quiet, go for it – even if it’s just to ride the cable car and sit by the monastery for an hour.

I would personally say absolutely. One of my favourite places in the world. I’ve been 3 times and only the last time did I do any hiking and that was just because I wanted the perfect spot to propose to my girlfriend (now fiancee). Just going up to the monastery is pretty awesome though.

I mean it’s beautiful but if you’re not into hiking you can stand and look at the mountain or you can go up in the funicular and take a look at the monastery. If you like the idea of either of those two things, then go, if not, then don’t.

If you’re only in town for a couple of days I would just go to Montjuic or something.

I mean it depend what you’re after. It’s beautiful, peaceful, unique. Many different ways to go up and down. It’s a great break from BCN and to be honest, something I wouldn’t suggest to miss. But I love the outdoors.

If you’re worried about crowds or your knees can’t handle long walks, aim for weekdays or late afternoons. You’ll find it much more peaceful.
