Cheap Barcelona Wine Bar: La Champagneria

A historic location built on local flavours, new friends, and maybe the occasional wine stain but hey – what more could you ask for from a Barcelona wine bar? If you crave adventure (e.g. stupidly cheap wine) make sure you go to LA CHAMPAGNERIA.

Barcelona Wine Bar Win: Getting to La Champagneria

La Champagneria, nickname of the bar Can Paixano, is found in Barceloneta (yellow line L4) in a little street called Carrer de la Reina Cristina (CHECK OUT THE MAP at the bottom of the article).

Champagneria doesn’t have a sign but they don’t need one.

It’s the Barcelona wine bar and you’ll know it by the crowd of people drinking in the street. Jockeying for position at this insanely crowded bar could very well end up a sport at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.

This is one of the best things to do in Barcelona, hands down.

That said, DON’T GO HERE if you want to SIT DOWN.

GO HERE if you want a Barcelona wine bar with CHEAP WINE and GOOD FAST FOOD (editor’s note: if you don’t like these your soul may be in slight disrepair)

Ordering at La Champagneria

Once you’ve climbed over a couple of Australians and pushed through a gauntlet of tipsy Italians, Germans, and Finns you’ll get to the bar and order a cup of cava rosat (sparking rosé wine). This is the house specialty and it’s only €1.20.

House rules dictate you order something to eat for every three glasses of wine. Twist that rubber arm why don’t you. I recommend a couple of tapas plates like anchovies, croquettes, Iberian ham and “pan con tomate” (bread with tomato).

With a ten euro budget you’ll be finding it hard to walk after everything you’ve eaten! And you might just be slurring your way through some 10th grade Spanish after all that wine. All the better.

When you’re done make sure to throw your napkins on the floor… it’s a sign that you’ve enjoyed the food (I swear!)

Like most Barcelona wine bars, Can Paixano opens around noon and closes at 10 PM.

A great stop after a long day at Barcelona’s best beaches.

CAREFUL: They’re closed on Sundays.

La Champagneria Tips

  • Don’t go dressed in your best clothes… you’ll never come out clean!
  • Order everything at once – you never know when you’ll get to order again.
  • You can buy most of their products on the official Can Paixano site

This top Barcelona wine bar is highly recommended by top tourist guides. Don’t miss it and make sure to leave a comment below telling me how it went!
