You can’t beat the freedom and flexibility of a scooter rental in Barcelona – Mediterranean wind in your hair and all – and I’m here to show you how using a company that’s racked up 110 million kilometers in the city.
This Barcelona scooter rental is using the trusted company Cooltra – a company that I’ve vetted personally for their top prices, add-on discounts, payment methods, and limited restrictions.
Whether you want to rent by minutes, hours, or days let’s take a look at how to rent a scooter in Barcelona!
Discount code: BARCELONAHACKS
A Great Scooter Rental in Barcelona Option
In searching for the best Barcelona scooter rental I looked high and low.
Sometimes though, the information is right under your nose – or in this case, right on the street with the sheer amount of white scooters with the emblematic blue Cooltra logo cruising around the city.
Not only is it one of the first Barcelona scooter rental places, but it’s found throughout Europe and they’ve recently added 15,000 brand new scooters to their fleet.
⚠️ Warning ⚠️: Barcelona’s top two attractions must now be booked in advance.
You can book fast track tickets to both individually or get them as part of a discount pass:
- ⛪ Buy now: Sagrada Familia Fast Track Admission (skip the lines)
- 🏞️ Buy now: Park Guell Fast Track Admission (skip the lines)
- 🎟️ Buy now: Best of Barcelona Bundle (Sagrada + Park Guell + 10% discount code for all else)
You will not be able to book these tickets on site – lock in your tickets ASAP or you could miss out.
Cooltra counts 7 seven pickup and drop off points in Barcelona so no matter where you stay in the city you’ll be a stone’s throw away from your scooter.
It’s also the best rent a scooter place in Barcelona on Tripadvisor.
I’f’m going to be breaking things down further, but if you’ve already decided to rent then you can head straight to Cooltra’s website to make your reservation.
Booking online gives you a 5% discount on the rental, but that’s not it!
For being readers of Barcelona Hacks you’ll be entitled to a further €10.00 discount inserting the following code at the time of booking:
BARCELONAHACKS
To apply your code simply select your scooter and click the blue writing “I HAVE A PROMOTIONAL CODE”, and here you’ll be able to insert it. To ensure the code works make sure you write it in CAPITAL LETTERS and click on the ‘+’ found to the side… voila! You’re ready to ride.
Barcelona Scooter Rental Prices and Conditions
There’s hardly a better Barcelona scooter rental option for price-quality ratio. At Cooltra you can get a scooter for as little as €26.00 a day with the average daily rental price hitting €33.00.
The above prices refer to a standard rental of 50 or 125 cc bikes like the Peugeot Tweet or similar, which will easily get two people around the city.
Definitely do some calculations but if there’s two of you and you rent a scooter for a few days you’ll be surprised just how cheap and convenient this can be.
Just make sure you add in the BARCELONAHACKS discount code.
To rent you’ll need to leave a standard €150.00 deposit for standard scooters (€300.00 Plus/€750.00 Premium, €1500.00 Super Premium) using cash or credit that’ll be given back to you at the end of the rental.
All Barcelona scooter rental prices include:
- Scooter rental.
- 1 helmet (additional helmets are extra).
- Accident and theft insurance (excess from €500 to €4000)
- Roadside assistance
- Free cancellation up to 48 hours before the rental

- Second helmet (€3.33 a day)
- Scooter delivery (€20.00, max 10 km from pick up shop)
- Scooter pick up (€20.00, max 10 km from pick up shop)
- Top Case €3.33 a day)
Gasoline is not included but you can fill the tank with about €8.00 and it’ll allow you to ride 100 km!
Why is Cooltra the Best Scooter Rental in Barcelona?
Above all else because the experience is professional and hassle-free.
After showing up at the the Via Laietana location I was in and out in a matter of minutes after speaking with a couple of courteous workers – in English of course.
It was only natural to head down to the beach as the first stop. From there it was up Calle Marina 10 minutes to get to La Sagrada Familia. I then took a ride to Passeig de Gracia with its famous shops and twin architectural wonders of Casa Batllo and Casa Mila.
After a couple more stops at Ciutadella Park and a quick drive through the Born district I ended the day in fashion in Plaça d’Espanya for the early Magic Fountain show.
Simply put, when renting a scooter in Barcelona you can cover a lot of ground in just a few hours. The bike itself didn’t give me any problems, was lightweight and maneuverable, and perfect for getting around the city.
They’re Delivered Bike Rentals in Barcelona
One thing that really stands out for Cooltra is the convenience: in fact they’ll deliver the bike to you if your Barcelona hotel or Barcelona hostel (or any arranged pickup point) is within a 20 km radius of the purchase point.
There’s 24 Hour Support
Again, not only is the customer service at Cooltra second to none, but you’ll get support in English 24 hours a day for all your needs across three different mediums.

Renting a Barcelona Scooter with GPS
If you’re a bit nervous about your navigation skills there’s a great one day scooter rental that’ll give you GPS plus 4 different pre-configured tours allowing you to see Barcelona’s top attractions in no time.
Not looking for structure? You’re free to shut it off and ride free.
This service through industry leader Vesping includes: a Vespa, GPS, a full tank, 2 helmets, and insurance.
Scooter rentals with GPS start at just 65 euros a day and are picked up near Sagrada Familia.
Thanks to my agreement with Vesping my readers get an exclusive 10% discount off their rental using the code BARCELONAHACKS – simply click the Cooltra rental link to get started.
Why Rent a Scooter in Barcelona?
Because mother nature says so. Barcelona, owing to its hot climate and dry pavement has the highest scooter usage in Europe. There’s nothing like that cool air blowing in your face on a hot day.
It optimises time. With Cooltra you move quicker than public transport and you see more attractions.
If you come by cruise ship it’s the only way to see everything in half a day outside of having a limousine waiting for you at the port. The Port Vell or Via Laietana pick up points are super close to the docks.
It also gives you access to sites outside the city like the vintage amusement park with a view at Mount Tibidabo or any of Barcelona’s natural parks.
The saw-like Montserrat mountain and its stunning monastery is also within reach.
In the end style matters. A Barcelona scooter rental is a unique experience, offers much more freedom than public transport, and is a great photo opportunity!
Most of all it’s easy, just like riding a bicycle.
Trust me, I’m Canadian. If I can do it so can you.

June 23, 2022 at 8:55 pmDo you rent electric scooters for cruises with weekly or daily rates. Do you deliver to the cruise dock?
-
June 24, 2022 at 12:14 pmYes, with Cooltra you can not only book weekly or monthly but you can have your bike delivered virtually anywhere within a 20 km radius of the shops. Whether or not they're allowed right into the dock area though I am not sure, so I would get in contact with them. Cheers,

August 18, 2021 at 8:48 pmThanks for the guide. I think since you wrote that the business model of cooltra must have changed. You cannot choose days on the weekend for rental. That is unfortunately exactly what I think most people want to do

August 19, 2021 at 6:21 amHi Lukas, Thank you so much for pointing this out! This is definitely strange :( I thought maybe it was because the bikes were sold out but it looks like this is the case in every city. I have sent them a message for clarification and will get back to you/update the page with any relevant information. Cheers,
-
August 23, 2021 at 4:58 amHi Lukas, I have just received word back and the reason the dates are greyed out is because their Barcelona office is closed on weekends. In this case you'll need to download their app and use the rent by minute/hour function by grabbing one of the strategically placed bikes around the city. The instructions are in the video on the Cooltra site. Cheers,

September 4, 2019 at 11:03 pmWe are going to Barcelona and November and thinking about renting scooters. I'm from the USA and have been to a couple countries where I would never try to drive because it's just too hectic (Nicaragua & Chile) and then I've been to Ireland where driving there is more like driving at home. Is driving in Barcelona crazy or would it be fine for a tourist? Thanks!
-
September 5, 2019 at 11:49 amHi Stephanie, I would put Spain as being somewhere in between Chile and Ireland ;) I've driven here a few times both car and scooter, and maybe it was just my paranoia of being a Canadian driving on narrow streets, but while I found it a bit strange I didn't find anything extreme. I wouldn't let that get in the way of an amazing scooter ride up the coast! Cheers, Ash

July 29, 2019 at 11:32 amHi Dave, Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with these types situations not being a rider myself, so I wouldn't want to give you a wrong answer. I would get in touch with the company you intend to rent from as only then can you be sure. Cheers, Ash

April 15, 2019 at 7:51 amHi,My wife and i want to travel to Porto from Barcelona.Where can i do a one way rental with a cheap reliable motorcycle? Kind regards.
-
April 15, 2019 at 4:33 pmHi Dan, Unfortunately this isn't an area of expertise... I've known people who have done van trips but not with motorcycles. I wouldn't want to give you bad/uninformed advice by simply looking at Google... but I'd try and find a handful of companies and look them up on the website Trustpilot to make sure they're reputable and then go from there with the budgeting. Ash
