Barcelona in June 2022 Guide: Events, Festivals + More

By the time we get to June in Barcelona, the first beach swim is already in the rear view mirror.

The lazy days of cold beer and hot sun are in full swing for us locals; but what about travelers looking to visit Barcelona with pre-departure nerves and incomplete itineraries?

The good news is I’ve created the ultimate guide to get you through it.

Welcome to Barcelona in June, friend.

What to Do in Barcelona in June 2022

For starters, there’s little better than sipping an ice-cold beer while the sun caresses you two shades darker with a view of the Med at one of Barcelona’s best beaches.

It’s also that summer season energy in the city:

Then throw in Spain’s biggest party, some of the year’s biggest music festivals, and arguably the best time of year for day trips from Barcelona and we’ve got the full meal deal.

Let’s take a deeper look so we can explore Barcelona properly.

Festivals in Barcelona in June 2022

Primavera Sound

Spain’s most famous indie rock festival naturally finds itself in Barcelona.

The first edition played to 8,000 people in 2001 at the famous Poble Espanyol but it quickly outgrew its old home and now finds itself by the sea at the Parc del Fòrum. Over 190,000 people attended the last version in 2019.

This year’s version features The Strokes, Beck, The National, Tyler the Creator, Gorillaz, Pavement, and many more.

You can also expect some of the artists on the bill to play small, intimate gigs at the best bars in Barcelona.

Dates: June 2nd to 12th, 2022.

For more info visit the Primavera Sound website.

Sonar

Fans of electronic music should already know about this behemoth festival.

It was started in 1994 as a three-day electronic and advanced music festival and has grown exponentially from its humble beginnings: with 115,000 attendees from 101 countries in 2016.

From its 15,000 capacity SonarClub to its multiple open-air venues and cosy electro-tents you’re simply spoiled for choice.

After a two year hiatus for COVID-19, Sonar is now one of the top things to do in Barcelona in June 2022 with a cracking lineup including Chemical Brothers, Paul Kalkbrenner, Massive Attack, 2ManyDjs, Richie Hawtin, and more.

Full festival passes cost €270.00 while single nights cost €70.00.

Dates: June 16th to 18th, 2022.

For more info visit the Sonar website.

Off Sonar

A classic refuge for those not looking to spend a ton but want to dance all the same.

You’ll find Off Sonar events running over the duration of Sonar – a lot of the DJ’s playing major bills during the festival end up playing small clubs and after parties often announced on short notice.

Among the Off Sonar events for 2022 keep an eye out for:

  • Detroit Love at the Monasterio del Poble Espanyol on June 16th
  • Circoloco at the Plaça Mayor del Poble Espanyol on June 16th
  • Get Lost on June 17th
  • DrumCode on June 18th
  • Innervision at Poble Espanyol on June 19th

Barcelona’s biggest club, the famous Razzmatazz, is one of the best host venues up to the task and their 2016 offering of Boys Noize and Nic Fanciulli went down as the club night of the year.

Also check out the summer season schedule at Terrrazza for more club options.

For more info visit the Off Sonar website.

Brunch in the Park/City

What to do in Barcelona in June? Locals swear by this Sunday afternoon electro-party picnic.

Take a quiet weekend afternoon in the sun on Barcelona’s historic Montjuic hill, set up some speakers and beer tents, and get at it. This outdoor party hosts international DJ’s, great gastronomy, and a large picnic area.

The whole idea? Dance from 4:00 pm till 10:00 pm without staying out all night!

The festival goes at the famous Poble Espanyol: you can arrive using the funicular at Paral-lel metro station or by taking bus 150 from Plaça Espanya.

Prices: €15.00 (early bird) – €20.00 (walk-up).

Dates: 2022 dates TBA.

More info at the Brunch in the Park website.

Barcelona Pride 2022

The Barcelona city center is one of the most LGBT-friendly areas in the world, so this is only natural.

In 2019 over 200,000 people both gay and straight attended the many festivities: funfairs, an open-air foam party, concerts with international DJs, drag queen galas and more.

If you’re looking to keep the parade going, make sure you check out our list of LGBT-friendly bars.

Dates: June 23rd to June 26th.

More info at the Barcelona Gay Pride 2022 website.

The Festival of San Juan 2022

Still don’t know what to do in Barcelona in June? You’re probably beyond hope if you don’t like this:

La Nit de Sant Joan is Spain’s biggest outdoor party and will be held on the night of June 23rd 2022.

The Bonfires of Saint John (Las Hogueras de San Juan) have their roots in summer solstice traditions of ancient times – fires were lit to defend against evil spirits believed to roam freely as the sun turned southward again.

Today these bonfires have found their way to the beach and transformed into all sorts of firecrackers and mischievousness. Hundreds of thousands end up on Barcelona’s beaches and it’s not uncommon to party all night.

People young and old hold some version of a botellon: a type of street drinking party where everybody brings bottles of spirits, ice, mixers, plastic cups, and lemon to drink the summer in!

From the beach you’ll see firework displays until sunrise, the chiringuitos (beach bars) stay open forever, and you’ll be sure to meet a ton of people and maybe even take a night swim.

Careful! Make sure you’re avoiding Barcelona pickpockets because they can have a field day during San Juan.

There’s also a normally a free electronic music party at Parc del Fòrum that has free entry till 3 AM.

You’ll be happy to know the Barcelona metro runs all night.

The Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya 2022

Motorsport lovers! June in Barcelona is home to a classic MotoGP event at Montmelò.

2022’s version runs from June 3rd to June 5th and tickets start at €29.50 each. The track itself is found about 25 km northeast from the city but you can easily get there via car, train, or bus.

Sagalés runs a convenient shuttle bus from l’Estació del Nord.

The best vistas for the race are found in the Stadium Area; for more 2022 Catalunya MotoGP ticket information check out the official MotoGP website.

Magic Nights at Casa Batllo

For those looking for romantic things to do in Barcelona during their Barcelona holiday I suggest checking out the Magic Nights concert series on the dragon-back rooftop of the epic Casa Batllo.

With entrance you’ll get art, live music from any of a number of eclectic bands, and a glass of cava wine.

Price: €49.00+.

Make sure you keep checking the Casa Batllo Magic Nights website for 2022 Magic Night information.

Festes Populars

Summer in Barcelona means the inevitable arrival of the festes populars (‘neighbourhood parties’).

In June you’ll find the festivities kicked off in the picturesque Born neighbourhood; here you can see many Catalan culture staples like the correfoc (a type of parade with fire-breathing dragons), the dancing giants, and a whole bunch of concerts in the area’s beautiful squares.

In 2020 the Festa Major Casc Antic ran on June 29th but as of April 13th 2022 there is still no announcement on this year’s version.

That said, we have some social media movement! Look for an announcement soon on the Festa Major Del Casc Antic De Barcelona website.

Football Legends Charity Match

As far as what to do in Barcelona in June what’s more summery than a good old football match?

Sports fans looking to take in a match at the legendary Camp Nou football stadium have found their event: usually during June Barcelona hosts an epic charity match with ex players from another European team.

The 2022 version is TBA.

Prices: €10.00  – €21.00

Advice Before Visiting Barcelona in June

Packing Barcelona Weather in June

Weather in Barcelona in June is about warm weather and sun.

Hello Alma, It really depends what you're looking for. In your shoes I would probably join a food tour like Devour or Wanderbeak. You could also check out Meetup.com to see what events and parties there are, many are organized for travellers coming and are in English.

Hi Claudia, Unfortunately there doesn't appear to be much going on on the exact day... the only thing I could find was something going down in the city of Leon :( I will however keep my eyes out, even though the time is ticking! Ash

Hi Ali, If it's a major festival it's listed above and I would pay attention specifically to the Sant Joan festival which will be on while you are visiting. Also, there is so much going on in Barcelona that aside from the major events of the year I simply cannot keep track of all of them on my blog (without being on it 24/7!)... but what I can do is run a search for you using the best Barcelona events site (made by the city itself) using your dates: https://guia.barcelona.cat/en/llistat?pg=search&cerca=*:*&tr=619&sort=proxdate,asc&af=code_prop&c=00619*&dt=2019-06-21,2019-06-27 Here you can sort them by type. Yes, some may not be in English but the browser translations are pretty good :) Also, take a look at Facebook events by sorting them by date using Barcelona as the city. There are a ton of things to do even if just small little get togethers. Other options would be Meetup.com (with all sorts of organized events by locals, many in English) or Couchsurfing.com. Hope this gives you some great ideas! Cheers, Ash

Hi Amy, There is so much going on in Barcelona that aside from the major events of the year I simply cannot keep track of all of them on my blog (without being on it 24/7!) so what I recommend people do for finding events is the following... Check guia.barcelona.cat to sort events by date and type: https://guia.barcelona.cat/en/llistat?tipuscerca=agenda&districtstr=&dt=2019-04-23%2C2019-04-28 Also, take a look at Facebook events by sorting them by date using Barcelona as the city. There are a ton of things to do even if small little get together. Hope this gives you some great ideas :) Ash

Hi there- I am on Barcelona 21st June - 23rd June. Where on the beach/near the beach is best to go for the the Festival of san juan 2019? Also will there be any parties etc. on the Friday and Saturday beforehand? - Any advice on good restaurants with outdoor areas for 15 people? Thanks so much! Pete.

Hi Pete, For Sant Joan the beaches get so rammed with crowds that all of them are pretty much the same... most locals end up going for a walk up the coast and just checking out random chiringuitos (beachside bars) looking for one with the right vibe, even though they're all very similar ;) I would tend to do the same... though if you're looking for a big one you should head up the El Forum (which is right at the end of all the city beaches) because they always put on a free electronic music concert. As for outdoor restaurants the first that comes to mind is Xiringuito Escriba which is by the sea and serves amazing paella as well as other dishes. You may also find some nice terraces outside at Martinex (on Montjuic) and Restaurante Isabela (a bit more expensive and posh)... keep in mind though that in high season these places are super busy so 15 might be stretching it. I'd ensure I called ahead to make sure they can accomodate you. Ash

Awesome Ash, thanks for being so helpful!! Do you think there will be street/beach parties going on the Friday and Saturday days/nights too or will it only get going on the Sunday? Your site is amazing by the way, the best resource by a mile to plan a Barca trip.

Hi Pete, Thanks for the kind words :) Usually there isn't much going on because everybody is setting up for the big one... the chiringuitos for example will not be operative. If you're looking for parties down by the beach you'll have to head to the Port Olimpic for the clubs like Shoko, Opium, and Pacha and the huge variety of bars down by the docks (to the north east of the two towers). Hi Lars, Unfortunately there isn't a local one of any repute and so people usually go through the big international ones like Viagogo or Stubhub. You may also want to try the Spanish website and app Wallapop which is very popular for selling things. Ash

A lot of good suggestions on this site. I am going to Barcelona this weekend (Friday to Tuesday). I found both Primavera Sound and Casa Battlo interesting. Too bad Piknik in the Park is not this Sunday and that there are no Barcelona charity matches this weekend. Do you have any new suggestions for events this weekend now that it is Close by?

Hi Kristin, Thanks so much for writing and the nice compliments on the site :) The events above are definitely the main ones and without knowing exactly what type of event you're looking for it would be tough... but you could check out the 1 euro market on Sunday or maybe a rooftop terrace party is more your thing? I suggest having a look at Facebook events and sorting them by date using Barcelona as the city. There are a ton of things to do even if small little get together. That said, the main events are definitely listed above. Hope that got you started on a wonderful trip... any more questions I am here! Ash
